Brief Summary

Edaphosaurus were a species of mammal, like raptiles that were the first herd animals that ever existed. They were as big as hippos and lived together in massive herds. They were mostly vegetarian, eating at all of the shrubs and leaves that they could fine. They are most noted for their unique sails on their backs. These were used to regulate their body temperature and body heat. They could also change the color of their seals with the heat that they absorb. This trait was usually used for mating purpouses. They were also preyed upon by the apex predator, dimetrodon.

Diet

  1. The ancestors of the edaphosaurus normally fed upon small insects in order to survive.
  2. Scientist originally thought that edaphosaurus preyed on mollusks because of their teetch formation.
  3. Further studies have confirmed that edaphosaurus was actually a plant eater.
